Spiceship

"Just not good"

submission: Spiceship
date: November 22, 2009

The game was incredibly dull. It had no variety in weapons or enemies. And what the hell was with the screenshot bullshit? Seriously it said 'press enter' so I assumed that meant the mothership laser was ready but it said download a screenshot or go back. If I went back it restarted the game. That's just poor design.

Saucer Strike

"Needs work"

submission: Saucer Strike
date: November 8, 2009

My biggest problem was that you kept reverting back to your primary weapon at the start of each level. In a good game, your starting weapon follows a progression directly proportional to the difficulty curve. I thought it was absurd that every level you started with the same weak weapon when the buildings got tougher and we started encountering turrets and helicopters. Good games don't have stupid mechanics like that. This isn't a good game. It's mediocre, and it needs a lot of work.

"Nothing to do"

submission: H4CK0R
date: October 25, 2009

I got as far as closing the antivirus program but now I can't do anything. I've tried every combination of locate and hack I could imagine but nothing works. I'm not sure what I'm even supposed to be doing right now. A dir command would've been nice to display a list of folders to hack. This game has no direction and it's more than incredibly frustrating trying to figure out what to do.

Submachine 6: the edge

"Okay"

date: October 16, 2009

I love the submachine series and this one is good. The only problem is I've hit a dead end with literally nowhere else to go and I'm stumped on the cube. The walkthrough link doesn't bring you to a walkthrough so it's pretty much broken. I'd really like to see one because I have absolutely no idea what to do now.

TPN ARENA

"In need of work"

submission: TPN ARENA
date: September 7, 2009

For one, the game is very large (7.2 mb!), and even on my fast dorm connection it took a comparatively ridiculous amount of time to load, considering games and movies of even larger sizes load faster. I don't know if that's a problem caused by the game or traffic is just heavy, but you should look into that if you can. Second, even though the game is large, it's still pretty mediocre. The gameplay is simple, but by no means easy. Others have done quick-draw games before that have been better. In later levels the enemies have absurdly fast draw times and it degrades it down to nothing more than timing how long until you have to draw and pressing the button a fraction of a second after it goes. A checkpoint or lives system would be nice so you don't keep going back to the beginning every time you die. Also, the biggest limiting factor of this game is the graphical quality. The characters were simply drawn and overall they looked like they were hastily thrown together. The attacks all looked sluggish and some of them I didn't even understand what happened.

It's a lot of nit-picks, but fix them and you can have a really good game here. As it is, it's just average.

Author's Response:

Well, it is my first actual game, and the music caused the large file size. The sequal will have looped music, so it shrinks it, hopefully..

I know it's not easy. Do you want an easy to beat game? Cuz I don't.

I'm not a very good AS'er, still learning, so I can't make lives or checkpoint yet.

I'm still a beginner, so it's not gonna be the greatest.

When Pigs Fly

"Okay"

submission: When Pigs Fly
date: August 1, 2009

This game is relentlessly unforgiving and boiled down to mediocrity in its faults. For one, why is lateral movement restricted to flying? Too many times I've died because I couldn't just simply WALK by something and I instead had to keep gently pressing the space bar and hope I didn't accidentally hit some spikes. Lateral movement in the air is even worse, and it becomes excruciatingly frustrating when you have to retry a screen because you clipped the edge of a spike or hit a wall and died. Respawning is also another issue. Why do you have to respawn in the same spot on each screen? More than any reasonable amount of times I would die right at the end of the screen and be forced back to the VERY beginning of it, increasing my frustration and decreasing my patience. I didn't even get to the end because my patience had worn down into nonexistence and I was 2 seconds away from chucking my laptop at the nearest window. You need to fix a lot of things with this game before I'll rate it any higher. Smooth out aerial controls, fix lateral controls on the ground, implement a better respawn system, and for the love of god do something about dying every time your wings hit anything. Seriously, I was annoyed to the edges of my sanity that hitting a wall killed you, which was obviously more of an artificial lengthener than a reasonably logical gameplay mechanic. Honestly more levels took luck than actual skill to complete. Sorry to sound like a nit-picker, but if a game is flawed I point it out. To the game's merit it was addicting for a while. But with such limited gameplay and no variety other than more reasons to pull out your hair, the game is just mediocre.

Some ideas:
You pull your wings in every time you're not using them.
A simple jump ability instead of actual flight.
You can ACTUALLY WALK on the ground.
Power-ups: temporary invincibility, speed, wings of steel, hover ability, etc.
More variety: different settings, different gameplay styles

That's my take on it.

The Circ

"Average"

submission: The Circ
date: July 27, 2009

The game was simple and it had little to keep me playing for more than a minute or two. One thing I noticed though is the ball controls a little oddly. Circ should travel in a path tangent to the point of release. Instead he releases perpendicular, which I was confused about at first but I quickly got the hang of it. That's a nit-pick though, so I don't mind. More variety would be nice.

Author's Response:

Yes, i heard the same from one of my friends.
I'm not sure about that it will be better to release Circ this way. But as you are the second who says it to me, i'll try it and test it.

Thanks for all posts, they are WERY helpful for me! ;)
